Building PLD-SAP r1

These pages document the reference implementation — the machine as actually built and currently operating. Where r1 deviates from the ideal described in the module specifications, the build page says so and links to the spec.

Before buying anything, read the full bill of materials (, ) and each module's procurement guide — several r1 parts have better alternatives if you are purchasing new.

Build order

The order below approximates real construction order and, importantly, procurement lead time: the vacuum system is almost always the long pole.

1. Vacuum system — chamber, pumps, feedthroughs, leak-down.
2. Frame & beam delivery — structure, laser, steering optics, galvo rails, switch mirror.
3. Ablation scanner — mirror+lens carriage, rotational and translational axes.
4. Main mechanism — tape transport, target and substrate holders.
5. Electronics — controller, drivers, interlocks, wiring.
6. Integration and first light — final assembly, first pump-down, alignment, first ablation.
